Tancho 丹頂

A rounded pattern named after Tancho crane that has a rounded red spot on its head. Tancho indicates the name of pattern also one category of koi variety. We can put “Tancho” in front of other variety name such as Tancho Sanke, Tancho Goshiki, Tancho Kujaku if it has Tancho patch on its head.

 

White koi with a single rounded Hi patch on the head is called Tancho Kohaku. Red circle on the white background reminds us of the Japanese flag.
